Instagram is finally rolling out an important update that will save users from the mayhem of the app’s square cropping. With the latest update, Instagram will now allow users to post photos and videos in portrait and landscape mode.
One of biggest challenges an Instagram user faces is adjusting a photo in the pre-defined square ratio. Instagram said that nearly one in every five photos posted to the site are not in the standard square format and hence it has decided to roll out the update. Now users will simply have to tap on the format icon to adjust the orientation to portrait or landscape instead of square. This will show your photo in your feed in either of the orientations that is chosen by you. After you have shared the photo, the full-sized version will appear to your followers, but in your profile grid, it will be shown as a center-cropped square.
Instagram has been focusing more on improving its platform with time to time updates. Last month, the photo sharing service announced that it will soon bring support for high resolution images (1080×1080). The latest update is definitely a welcome move from Instagram as the restriction to square cropping was annoying as important parts or people had to be chopped while posting a photo. In addition, Instagram is also adding a nifty update for videos as now you will need only one set of filters for all types of moments. The intensity of the video filters can also adjusted for videos.
