Sony Xperia Z5 Premium with a whopping 4K display goes official

Sony along with Xperia Z5 has taken wraps off Xperia Z5 Premium at its dedicated press conference at IFA trade show in Berlin. The Z5 Premium carries the same design language as that of the Z5, but has a superior 4K display on board.

Sony likes to call the Z5 Premium as super-flagship and considering the fact that the device comes with four times the resolution of Full HD, it might well qualify for the new title.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium has a slightly bigger 5.5-inch TRILUMINOS display as compared to the 5.2-inch unit on the Z5. The 3840 x 2160 pixels resolution accounts to a pixel density of 806 ppi and can a display get sharper than this? Well, we’re not really sure. Sony is also packing its X-Reality engine and this makes sure that the display quality on the Z5 Premium is top notch.

Another feature that built exclusively to the Xperia Z5 Premium is the ‘upscale to 4K’ – which basically enhances any native or third party videos or photos to 4K resolution. So, you can now enjoy viewing Netflix, YouTube or your personal clips in ultra-high quality. Furthermore, you can capture in 4K using Z5 Premium, but you can preserve any of the content as an 8 megapixel image to save some storage space.

Just like the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact, the Xperia Z5 Premium is also powered by a Snapdragon 810 chipset, which features octa-core CPUs, 64bit support and latest 4G LTE standards. There’s 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of inbuilt storage, but you can expand that by up to 200 GB via microSD card.

Moving on to the camera section, the department is led by a 23 megapixel 1/2.3 Exmor RS sensor with F2.0 G lens. Sony has completely re-imagined its smartphone camera module for the Z5 series for the first time since its introduction with the Z1 series. The new camera unit can get its focus right in just about 0.03 seconds, according to the company, which apparently is faster than the blink of a human eye.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium has a finger print scanner integrated in the power button of the device. The phablet also comes with IPX 5 / IPX 8 rating, which means that the device is waterproof and is protected against dust.

The Z5 Premium brings all the latest audio codecs and also has a wide range of connectivity options. Sony is launching the Z5 series with Android 5.1 Lollipop on board. The juice for the device comes from a 3,430mAh battery and considering the fact that the device has a 4K display, it will be quite interesting to see how long the smartphone can last on a single charge. Sony has enabled Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology on the Z5 Premium.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium will be up for grabs in chrome, black and gold color options and will be available in both Single SIM and dual SIM variants starting this November.
