Skype starts beta testing messaging app for Android in India

Skype is working on a new standalone messaging app for Android in India. The company has started the beta program and is urging interested users to sign up for the same.

In order to sign up for the program, you will have to fill in your information in a survey which has questions like area of residence, what type of mobile you use, details about telecom operator and so on. After submitting the survey and signing the terms and conditions, Skype will email you a link to download the new messaging Android app which you can try out before it is released.

As a beta tester, you will have to try out the messaging app and give feedback and suggestions to tweak and improve the app. You can also report about issues that you are facing while using the app. Skype states that once you accept the program all the information regarding the app should be kept as a secret and not shared with anyone outside of the program including on social media. Check out the Skype India page here for more details about joining the beta program.

Skype has been constantly updating its mobile apps on Android and iOS since past few months. A standalone messaging app for Android which is especially targeted for India looks like a good move from Skype who is lagging behind the current social messaging market that is ruled by the likes of WhatsApp, Viber, Hike and so on. It will be interesting to see what Skype has to offer with this messaging app.
