Google has announced updates for Photos that was originally launched in May this year at I/O. Today, the company has updated the Photos app with a bunch of new features and improvements.
First up, Google Photos is getting Chromecast support. Now an icon will appear at the top right corner of the Photos app when you are on a Wi-Fi network shared by a Chromecast. You will need to simply tap on the icon and then on the photo to broadcast it to the screen. Photos app will allow you to choose exactly what is displayed at all times. This will be helpful in case you don’t want to cast a specific private photo. Next up, the Photos app is getting people labeling feature allows you to add tags to photos of specific people to make it easier to find them thereby helping you to organize photos.
Lastly, Google Photos is getting new shared albums feature that is similar in many ways to Facebook’s Moments app that lets you share photos privately. The shared albums feature will be rolling out to the Google Photos iOS and Android app in a later update. The Chromecast support is coming to Photos app starting tomorrow and will come to iOS app soon. Google Photos was last updated in August with ability to rearrange photos, trim videos and more.
[Update] – Google Photos now support Animations that can be shared directly to WhatsApp and they will stay animated. You can also
adjust the speed of slow motion videos shot with the new Google Camera app on Nexus 5X & 6P. Finally, the app has become faster with bug fixes and performance improvements.
