Intex to invest Rs 1,000 Cr to set up a manufacturing facility in Gr Noida


Homegrown mobile handset maker Intex is strengthening its manufacturing initiatives further in India. The company is looking forward to set up a Rs 1,000 Cr manufacturing facility at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, as per a latest report from PTI.

According to the report, the manufacturing unit that will be ready in three year’s of time will be spread over 20 lakh square feet area and will have a capacity to produce 35 million phones. Going forward, Intex will also produce LED televisions, washing machines and other computer peripherals. Amitabh Khurana, Intex Technologies Head, Manufacturing told PTI that Intex which has been manufacturing in India since 2001, believes in promoting manufacturing in India and is making about a million phones per month.

At present, Intex has four manufacturing facilities, two in Jammu, one each at Baddi ( Himachal Pradesh) and Noida (UP) in India. In addition to manufacturing, Intex will invest Rs 500 crore in research and development over the next few years. The firm is aiming two-fold growth in revenue to Rs 8,000 crore in the current financial year with 85 per cent of it coming from mobile division. Intex was the third largest smartphone maker in India for Q2, 2015 with 11% of market share as per IDC report.
