SwiftKey announces ‘Neural Alpha’, a new neural network keyboard

SwiftKey has released a new neural network keyboard that aims to offer better word prediction. The latest project is a Greenhouse initiative from the popular third party keyboard.

Dubbed as SwiftKey Neural Alpha, the keyboard is claimed to be “the world’s first” smartphone keyboard to use an artificial neural network to help make more accurate predictions and correct language. The Neural keyboard makes smarter and meaningful word suggestions in the context of your sentences. SwiftKey claims that the latest keyboard not only understands more complex word relationships, but also analyzes longer sentence context. The Neural Alpha keyboard takes into consideration entire sentences instead of only two or three words at a time which gives it an ability to better predict what you are planning on saying. In comparison the current SwiftKey keyboard uses the ‘n-gram’ model to deliver next word predictions.

“SwiftKey’s neural model is able to meaningfully capture the relationship between words. It understands word similarity, allowing it to compare words on the fly. Within the neural model, words can be visualized in ‘clusters’, located at varying degrees of proximity to one another.”

SwiftKey stated in a company blog.

SwiftKey was the first company to introduce the suggestion bar at the top of the smartphone keyboard when it launched its Android app in 2010. SwiftKey Neural is currently in the alpha stage and the company is asking for user feedback to further improve it. You can download the SwiftKey Neural Alpha from the Google Play Store.
