Google has announced that it is expanding Google Cardboard to over 100 countries. The Google Cardboard app is now available in 39 languages on both Android and iOS.

The Cardboard developer documents are also now available in 10 languages to help even more developers around the world build for VR. Google also updated its Cardboard software development kits for Android and Unity with two highly requested changes: drift correction and Unity performance. The Unity SDK now supports Metal rendering on iOS and multithreaded rendering on Android, as well as “a fully Unity-native distortion pass”. Google said that more than 15 million Cardboard apps have been downloaded from Google Play.

“This update includes a major overhaul of the sensor fusion algorithms that integrate the signals from the gyroscope and accelerometer. These improvements substantially decrease drift, especially on phones with lower-quality sensors.”

Street View

Google has also announced support for Cardboard in its mobile Street View. This will allow you to explore locations in 360 degrees. The company had released a standalone app for Street View on Android last month. To access the feature, all you have to do is make sure you have the latest version of the app. After that you will have to navigate your way to any view, rotate your phone 90 degrees and finally tap the new Google Cardboard icon at the top-right of the screen.
