Google has given the Play Store a major UI overhaul along with improved navigation. The latest changes were previewed by Googler Kirill Grouchnikov a couple of days ago and the update is now rolling out to users.
The new UI for the Play Store is fresh and the main menu is divided into two parts – Apps&Games and Entertainment. This replaces the current display of six categories (Apps, Games, Movies & TV, Music, Books, and Newsstand). Under the Apps & Games tab, you will be able to select from multiple different subcategories, such as Top Charts, Games, Categories, Family and more while the Entertainment tab offers Movies & TV, Music, Books and Newsstand.
The Store now gets new animations, including elastic scrolling when browsing vertically. Also, the latest update that bumps the Play Store to version 6.0 will include “highlights” banner graphics at the top of the interface, showing off new releases and particular categories of apps. In addition the new Play Store supports horizontal scrolling (right to left). It looks like this is a gradual roll out and hence will take time to reach everyone.
