Instagram has introduced a standalone app called Boomerang that creates GIF-Like looping videos. Available on Android and iOS, the app combines photos into one-second videos that play forward and backward in a loop.
The Boomerang app takes one-second burst of five photos by one simple tap to create a mini video loop. You can take the photos in portrait or landscape mode and are saved to the phone’s camera roll and also share it on Instagram, or other social networks. The videos do not currently include audio. The app doesn’t require and Instagram account and you don’t even have to log in.
Boomerang app takes cue from Twitter’s Vine and the new Live Photos feature on the Apple iPhone 6s. Prior to Boomerang, Instagram had launched Hyperlapse app for iPhone for making time lapse videos using stabilization technology and Layout app for Android and iOS that makes collages. Instagram has more than 400 million monthly active users and about 80 million photos are shared on the service every day.
