Facebook has made its search feature more powerful with latest update. The social network has announced Search FYI, an expanded search function that will allow users to find out what the world is saying about a particular topic.
The new function lets users conduct a Google-like search through more than 2 trillion indexed posts on any topic, making it easier to find real-time information and relevant conversations. Facebook says it now hosts more than 1.5 billion searches per day. Users can access the feature through a search bar on its website or mobile app.
First up, Facebook search will now offer you better personalized suggestions when you tap into the search box and start typing. It will highlight things that are happening right now so you can follow popular stories as they unfold. For example, if you type “water” into the search box, Facebook will auto-suggest popular search terms and phrases, such as “water on Mars.” Next up, when you search, you will now see the most recent, relevant public posts along with posts from your friends. These search results are organized to help you quickly know what the world is saying about a topic in the moment. You also can pull-to-refresh and see the latest public posts. Finally, you can now find easily find public conversation with the improved search. You can easily find public posts about a link, see popular quotes and phrases mentioned in these posts with one tap.
The latest move comes from Facebook after Twitter rolled out Moments news curation tool to track live events earlier this month. Today’s updates are rolling out now in US English on iPhone, Android and desktop.
