Popular photo editing app VSCO has launched a GIF creator app DSCO for iPhone in a bid to take on recently released Boomerang app by Instagram.
DSCO (pronounced “disco”) lets you easily capture, edit, and share animated GIFs that can be up to 2.5 seconds long. In order to make a GIF you will have to capture a video with the app’s built-in camera, swipe to add filters, then hit Publish to send it right to your VSCO profile. You can then share the GIFs to Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The GIFs are visible on both the VSCO mobile app and web allowing user interaction and easy sharing to other platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram. Currently, you cannot upload photos, video or GIFs from your camera roll into the DSCO app.
The filter selection includes some of VSCO’s most popular presets, along with some exclusive ones for DSCO, developed in partnership with “cultural innovators” like MTV and Opening Ceremony. VSCO has promised that more filters will be added in coming weeks. At present the DSCO app is exclusive to iOS and there is no word if it will come to Android.
