Microsoft has acquired Israeli based security company Secure Islands. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed but it is reported that it could be between $77 million and $150 million.
This is the third security firm from Israeli that is being acquired by Microsoft. As a result of this acquisition, Secure Islands’ technology will be integrated into Microsoft’s Azure Rights Management Service, a cloud-based information protection solution. Secure Islands provides powerful data classification, protection and loss prevention technologies for any type of file, which allows customers to apply data protection to more applications. UBS, OSRAM, Vodafone and Credit Suisse are some of Secure Islands’ customers.
Microsoft aims to enhance the data protection capabilities with Azure Rights Management Service with Secure Islands’ technology. The company has previously worked with Microsoft and built its solutions using rights management technology. Secure Islands will continue to sell its existing solutions and support its customers. Prior to this acquisition, Microsoft had purchased hybrid cloud security startup Aorato for $200M last year and cloud security firm Adallom for around $300 million in September.
