Cyanogen are apparently planning big things for the year 2016 as it aims to launch several smartphones in 2016 including a flagship product by partnering with various manufacturers.
The company is aiming to launch something akin to Android One. Cyanogen’s aim is to bring more value for money and giving high performance and software to smartphones even below US$ 100.
According to Cyanogen’s CTO and co-founder Steve Klondik, most smartphones that come below the US$ 100 price point have too much bloatware and are most often neglected in update cycles. These are two issues that they will aim to fix by giving a bloatfree OS that is always up to date like Android One devices.
This will be possible along with CM13 which will be based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow which they are planning to roll out by the end of 2015. Although, the focus will be on lower end handsets and to push Cyanogen into the hands of as many people as possible, Steve also hinted at plans of making a flagship product although he didn’t specify a manufacturer or model name. Whatever they have revealed seems great so far but we hope that they implement it well and they keep their ties strong. The OnePlus One was a promising start to a partnership but issues caused Cyanogen and OnePlus to part ways and thereby ending a potential game changing partnership.
