BSNL, Aircel, Vodafone and Rcom have joined Airtel and Paytm to offer free talk time and data to help their customers to stay in touch with their family and friends in flood-stricken Chennai. State-run BSNL said that it will offer free on-net local and STD calls as well as free data for 7 days for its pre-paid users. Skype is offering international calls to landlines and mobiles into Tamil Nadu free of charge for the next few days.
Due to excessive water logging there are power failures in most parts of Chennai, impacting mobile services in some areas. These are being restored gradually.
