Nikon has forayed into the action camera market by announcing KeyMission 360. As the name suggests, the action camera is capable of taking 360 degree videos in 4K.
The KeyMission 360 features an image sensor and lens combination on two opposite sides of the camera. Images from each of these cameras are combined in-camera to create a single realistic, high-definition, 360° image. The camera is waterproof to depths of 30 meters and is rugged enough to stand dust, shocks and low temperatures. In addition, reliable electronic vibration reduction, enabled via applications during playback, reduces the effects of camera shake, producing sharp and crisp movie quality.
Currently, specifications of the Nikon KeyMission 360 action camera are limited. GoPro is the current leader in the action camera industry which is still in a nascent stage but with advent of 4K video and content, more players are entering the market. Nikon is showcasing the action camera at the ongoing CES 2016.
