Samsung to launch Gear S2 and Gear VR in India on January 21

 

Samsung has sent out invites for a launch event in India on January 21st, Thursday, but it is likely to launch the Gear S2 smartwatch along with the Gear VR headset for consumers powered by Oculus at the event.

Both the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 Classic watches were announced ahead of IFA last year, run on Tizen-based wearable platform, have a 1.2-inch (360×360 pixels) Circular Super AMOLED displays, rotating bezel, Home and Back buttons, IP67 certification for dust and water resistance, 512MB RAM, Heart Rate sensor, Barometer, 4GB of internal storage, 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC support and pack a 250mAh Li-ion battery. The new Gear S2 series work with most Android devices running on Android 4.4 (Kitkat) or later with 1.5GB RAM and above.

Samsung and Oculus announced Gear VR headset aimed at consumers, back in September last year. It is compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge smartphones. It is 22% lighter than previous Gear VR Innovator Edition, has an improved touchpad that provides easier control to access films, gaming, 360 degree video and experiential content available for Gear VR and also comes with a new foam cushioning to make the device more comfortable to wear.

The Samsung Gear S2 went on sale in the U.S. recently starting at $299.99 and the Gear VR went on sale for $99.99. We should know the pricing for India when these devices launch on Thursday.
