Motorola launched its ShatterShield display device – Moto X Force – in India on Monday, which according to company is “world’s first shatterproof display smartphone”.
The Moto X Force was first announced last year in October as the DROID Turbo 2 in United States. The main highlight of the smartphone is its 5.4-inch Quad HD shatterproof screen with Moto ShatterShield display technology, which is essentially made of an integrated system of five layers that absorbs shock from impact and is guaranteed not to shatter. Also, Motorola during the launch event in India announced that the company will provide warranty up to 4 years for the display. The front 5.4-inch Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) AMOLED display with 540ppi pixel density appears nice and bright in sunlight. It doesn’t attract much fingerprints/ smudges as well. Although we didn’t really like the front design and it didn’t appear premium.
The rear of Moto X Force features almost similar design as the Moto X Play, but with a Ballistic Nylon non-removable back in Black and Grey colours or a White back with soft rubber like X Play. The phone is little bulky for a premium smartphone with dimensions 149.8 x 78 x 7.6-9.2mm (curve), and weighs 169 grams.
Inside, the Moto X Force packs an octa-core 2.0 GHz Snapdragon 810 processor with Adreno 430 GPU. We are yet to see if the heating problem still exists for the SoC here, so do stay tuned for a full review,
The phone runs dated Android 5.1 Lollipop OS out-of-the-box, and Motorola already confirmed Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the smartphone. It comes in two internal storage variants 32GB and 64GB, which can be further expanded via microSD card for up to whopping 2TB in size.
On camera front, the Moto X Force boasts of a 21-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, 4K video recording. The front is a 5-megapixel camera with 87-degree wide-angle lens, selfie LED Flash, 1.4um pixel and f/2.0 aperture.
Above the display sits the 5-megapixel camera along with two sensors – proximity and ambient light sensor), earpiece grill and front selfie flash. The three capacitive touch buttons – Menu, Home and Back – are within the display and below it sits two front facing loudspeaker grills.
The 3.5mm audio jack and SIM card tray sit on the top edge, while the Micro-USB charging port is at the bottom. Left edge has nothing and the Right side features the volume rocker and power / lock key.
The Motorola Moto X Force is a dual-hybrid SIM (Nano-SIM + Nano-SIM / microSD card) device, and supports 4G LTE for band 3 and band 40 in India. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.1 LE and NFC. The handset is backed by a 3760mAh non-removable battery.
The Motorola Moto X Force comes in Black and Grey with Ballistic Nylon back, and White colour back with soft rubber back. It is priced at Rs. 49,999 for 32GB variant and Rs. 53,999 for the 64GB variant. It will be available from Flipkart, Amazon.in, Spice Hotspot and Croma starting from February 8th.
