Google eyes interactive digital books with Editions at Play

Google has unveiled Editions at Play, its new experiment between their Creative Lab and Visual Editions that focuses on interactive digital books. The digital book merges traditional reading experience with the smartphone technology.

These interactive digital books can be bought from the Play Store and can be accessed via the mobile web browser. Users will be able to experience features like explore locations in Street View, or switching between two characters’ perspective while reading the books that belong to Editions at Play. Each book has their own URL, a unique interface and navigation. The new experiment aims at offering an immersive digital reading experience. Currently, two new books: Entrances & Exits by Reif Larsen and The Truth About Cats & Dogs by Joe Dunthorne and Sam Riviere are available at the Editions at Play store. These books are available to preview and buy using Google Play on the Editions At Play website.

Google said that it is currently working on books from Alan Trotter and a collaboration between Tommy Lee Edwards and I Speak Machine. These will be available in April, with more books planned for later in the year.
