Apple has announced a worldwide replacement program for selected USB Type C cables that were shipped with the 12-inch Retina MacBook through June of 2015. The company says that some of these cables are faulty as they have design issues.
Apple is offering to replace these cables for free under the program even if you bought the cable as a standalone accessory. The company has provided a guide on the its website to recognize your faulty cable and says that the affected cables have “Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China.” stamped on them while the new, redesigned cables include a serial number after that text.
Apple said that it will send the cable to customers for free, who have supplied a valid mailing address at point of purchase. Others can contact Apple Support, visit an Apple Certified Service Provider or any of the retail locations to get their cables replaced.
