Skype has announced that it is killing its Qik video messaging app on March 24. Launched in October 2014 on Android, iOS and Windows Phone, the Qik app allowed users to record video upto 42 seconds long.
A video recorded with Qik lasted for two weeks before disappearing and users could also add video and captions to the message. Skype said that users will need to save any special messages on the Qik app before March 24 as after this date, you will no longer be able to send or receive messages. Skype said that it had migrated some of Qik’s most used features into the Skype app. The company has enabled video messaging in Skype along with features such as filters for an enhanced users experience.
Skype said in a company blog post,
In 2014, we launched Skype Qik, a mobile video messaging app to help share moments with groups of friends. Since then, we have learned that many of you are already doing these things in Skype, and as a result, we migrated some of Qik’s most used features into the Skype app you already know and love.
Last week, Skype added free group video calling feature for Android and iOS.
