Facebook Messenger for Android gets Material Design makeover

Facebook is finally releasing a Material Design update for Messenger on Android. The latest update revamps the app with Material Design elements like bold colors, cleaner and more colorful UI.

First up, Facebook Messenger now gets a floating action (FAB) with a ‘+’ sign that will let you start a new chat. Prior to this, there was a blue bar at the bottom that allowed you to search for users and and compose a new message. Moving on, the app sports a blue navigation bar at the top which was simply white earlier and this bar has buttons for chats, settings, call and so on. Facebook constantly updates Messenger with new features and improvements from time to time.

In December last year, it added the ability to create custom threads and nicknames for specific friends. Messenger which has over 800 million monthly active users added support for multiple accounts last month. The app crossed 1 billion downloads for its Android app in June last year. Facebook’s Messenger head said in the blog post that the Material Design update for the app would be available to all users later today.
