Ola takes down Bike Taxi option from the app

Ola rolled out Bike Taxis in Bangalore recently but it looks like the company is withdrawing the service already. The bike icon that was present on the Ola app has been taken down and is no longer available.

Following its launch the Bike Taxis were called as illegal by the Karnataka State Transport Department. The authorities even asked people to not use the service. A couple of reports have also stated that the Regional Transport Authority has even seized some of the bikes because they were being operated without a permit. In order to operate in the state, these bikes taxis should be converted into transport vehicles and currently they are being run as non-transport vehicles.

Uber also launched uberMoto motorbike service on the same day Ola launched the Bike Taxis. At the time of writing this article, the uberMoto icon was present in the app but it said no bikes are available. For quick reminder, uberMoto and Ola Bike lets you book a ride on a motorcycle similar to a cab via its mobile app. The former charges Rs. 3 per KM and a base fare of Rs. 15 while the latter charges Rs 2 per KM with a base fare of Rs. 30.
