Telegram which crossed 100 million MAU mark recently, has received a new update that brings a bunch of new features and improvements to its app. The latest v3.7 update pumps up the Supergroups support for members from 1000 to 5000.
Announced first in November last year, the Supergroups feature allows users to make groups containing upto 1000 members. Next up, the update will let admins of the supergroup inform all members by pinning an important message at the top. All the members in the Supergroup will receive a notification for the pinned message, even if they have muted ordinary messages from the group.
In addition, the app now gets a new functionality that lets you make supergroups public and get a short link. Anybody can view the group’s entire chat history and join to post messages. Public groups are already live in Europe and the U.S., and will be rolling out gradually to other countries. In a bid to prevent potential spam issues, Telegram has introduced moderation tools for group admins which lets them quickly delete all messages from a specific member, block and report them. All these features work only in supergroups, but now any group can be converted to a supergroup by its creator.
