Google is internally referring to Android N as New York Cheesecake. Android Police has found out various references to “nyc”or New York Chessecake in the Android Open Source Project repository.
The previous versions of Android also had codenames that were different from the actual name as KitKat was Key Lime Pie, Lollipop was Lemon Meringue Pie and Marshmallow was referred as Macadamia Nut Cookie. Until now the internal codename has never become the final name for an Android release. Google started naming its Android versions after desserts and sweets more than six years ago. Sundar Pichai, Google CEO had hinted that Android N could be named after an Indian dessert.
Google is also taking its own poll with an Opinion Rewards app that lets you get Play Store credit for answering surveys. It is asking two survey questions “What tasty food comes to mind that starts with the letter N? and What is your tasty treat from the list?, with choices being Napoleon, Nut brittle, Nachos, Nori, Noodles, Nougat, Neapolitan ice cream. Until now, it is expected that Android N will be Nutella but we will have to wait and see which dessert will Google go with this time. Last week, Google released Android N developer preview last week with an array of new features.
