Twitter is turning 10 today. The micro blogging site was co-founded by the current CEO Jack Dorsey on March 21, 2006. Twitter which now has more than 320 million monthly active users has become an integral part of our day-to-day online communication.
The platform has changed the way people communicate online thanks to its 140 character limit that was rumored to be taken down. However, Jack Dorsey cleared in an recent interview that the 140 character limit is staying. Twitter has snowballed into an important communication tool for celebrities, politicians, journalists and of course the common man. It is also an excellent platform to raise awareness about political topics, spread political messages and coordinate collective action. In addition, Twitter has carved a niche for itself when it comes to keeping a tab of events in real time.
On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, Twitter has submitted a post titled “Thank you! Love Twitter,” and is inviting people to celebrate its first decade with the hashtag, LoveTwitter.
Twitter said in a blog post,
As March 21 begins around the world, each of our global offices will kick off the day by showing our appreciation and gratitude — starting in Sydney and following the sun to headquarters in San Francisco. We are excited to celebrate with all of you.
Twitter has been striving hard to increase its use base and has been adding from time-to-time an array of features and improvements to its app. It will be interesting to see what new plans and features the service has for its users in the coming years.
