Google has introduced Fiber Phone, a new home telephone service to its existing Fiber high-speed internet and cable TV offerings.
Google is rolling out the service in select areas for just $10 per month, and that it would include many of the same features of its Web calling platform, Google Voice. The Fiber Phone is a landline service for Google Fiber customers. To use the service, you will need to attach a “Fiber Phone box” to an existing landline handset to place calls at home. The service will let you answer or make phone calls using the same phone number from other devices, such as a smartphone or tablet.
The service will allow you to get unlimited local and nationwide calling, and the same affordable rates as Google Voice for international calls. It will work with existing phone number, or select a new one. Features and services like call waiting, caller ID, and 911 are available on the Fiber Phone. In addition, you can access voicemails and the service will transcribe your voice messages for you and then send as a text or email.
Google is rolling out Fiber Phone gradually in phases in the Fiber cities such as Kansas and Austin. Interested users can sign up here.
