GoPro Omni VR camera and 360-degree video platform GoPro VR announced

GoPro has officially announced Omni VR Camera and GoPro VR 360-degree content platform. These announcements are part of the company’s line-up for the NAB show that starts today.

The GoPro Omni is a cube shaped camera that features six Hero4 cameras and an aluminum rig, which is lightweight and made for action shots. All these six cameras work at the same time and when the footage from the cameras are stitched together, a single 360-degree video is created. The camera comes with an over capture feature that captures at 8K and extract an HD deliverable.

Along with the GoPro Omni, the company also launched GoPro VR, a 360-degree VR channel that offers curated content. The platform allows users to experience the immersive world of 360˚ video showcasing original content from GoPro. GoPro VR is available on the web and in the form free app platform for iOS and Android designed to showcase VR content from around the world and share it further.

Last year, the company had launched GoPro Odyssey 16-camera VR rig that is priced at $15,000. The GoPro Omni VR costs $4,999.99 and includes one GoPro Omni Sync Rig, GoPro Kolor Software License, six GoPro HERO4 Black cameras and batteries, GoPro Smart Remote, Six GoPro Mini USB Cables, 32GB microSD Cards and card readers and Ultra compact, rugged shipping case. Pre-orders for the GoPro Omni will begin starting today.
