Google Chrome OS version 50 gets Material Design update

Google is giving Chrome OS a major makeover. The update that bumps the app to version 50 adds a Material Design revamp to Chrome OS. Google also revealed that Chrome browser now has 1 billion monthly active users.

The Chrome OS UI gets refreshed as the menu button is the usual three-dot icon from Android. The update even give a new look and feel to folders and fonts. Other prominent changes are in the browser, file manager, and image viewer. The UI tweak is now rendered “fully programmatically” that allowed Google to remove upwards of 1,200 image files used by the system, and Chrome OS should scale much better across resolutions.

Now there is a new  default theme and a completely overhauled Incognito theme with a new dark color. There is also a Hybrid layout which is aimed at Hybrid devices such as convertibles and touch-screen enabled computers. This layout will be deployed first by default on touchscreen Chromebooks only. The new UI will be updated automatically to Chrome OS.

Giving more insight about Chrome browser, Google said that more than 771 billion pages load each month. Over 2 million less data is used each month because of Chrome’s data saving feature, 3.6 billion web pages are automatically translated and the browser’s smart warnings protect users about 145 million times from malicious web pages monthly.
