Facebook is apparently working on a new standalone camera app that will come with built-in live streaming capabilities.
According to the report, the camera app is being created in London and will be similar to the Snapchat app. The app will be able to capture photos and also support live streaming as well. It launches directly into the camera interface and is expected to be integrated with Instagram and other Facebook-owned apps. It will also allow users to share live streamed video back to Facebook.
Earlier this month, a report showed that Facebook users are sharing fewer pieces of original content, such as personal updates or photos. Facebook already has Moments facial recognition app that lets groups share photos. The social network has been giving a push for photos and videos in recent times. Last month it acquired MSQRD video filter app and has been focusing on Live Videos.
This is not a first attempt from Facebook to create standalone camera apps as it had launched apps like Facebook Camera, Poke, Bolt, Slingshot and Riff. All of the apps failed to gain any traction and were hence shut down. It must be noted that it is not clear when or if, Facebook will launch the camera app.
