LinkedIn said to be working on own version of Facebook’s Instant Articles

LinkedIn is taking a cue Facebook and considering own version of Instant Articles, according to a report from BuzzFeed.

LinkedIn has been in discussions with publishers with a view to implementing the system. Similar to Facebook’s Instant Articles, LinkedIn’s version will allow publishers to host content directly on its platform instead of posting links that direct people back to their own sites. Besides loading faster than regular articles, Instant Articles can be read directly inside the app and users don’t need to leave the app. While Facebook has Instant Articles, Google has its own quick loading articles project called as Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) that creates mobile optimized content and loads it instantly.

A LinkedIn spokesperson told BuzzFeed,

Publishers remain a very important part of our content ecosystem and we are in regular conversations with them about new ways to work together. Our goal is to ensure we get the right content in front of the right member at the right time to deliver the best member experience possible.

LinkedIn has over 400 million users globally and a similar product could help the company keep its users on the platform and eventually increase user engagement. At present, LinkedIn had its own news aggregation app called LinkedIn Pulse that was integrated into the service last year.
