Facebook kills its ‘Notify’ news push-notification app

Facebook is shutting down its Notify news aggregator app forever. The Notify app is little over 6 months old, was introduced in November 2015.

The Notify app was only available to iOS users. It notifies users for latest and greatest of your selected interests, and allows them to subscribe to popular news or weather channels to get push notifications for breaking news.

Facebook is sending message to Notify users that “thanks for using Notify. We’re transitioning parts of Notify into other Facebook products, and the app will no longer be supported.”

As for what the company will do for Notify, a report citing Facebook spokesperson notes that the app’s technology will be used for wider 900 million audience via “real-time updates” through Facebook Messenger. The Facebook statement reads, “With more than 900 million people using Messenger each month, we think there is a great opportunity for publishers to reach even more people interested in real-time updates from their favorite sources.”
