Facebook Messenger has joined the 1 billion user club only two months after it had announced it had 900 million MAU in April. Facebook Messenger from launched as a standalone app independent from Facebook in 2014. The social network has revealed few stats about how people are using the app. More than 17 billion photos are shared every month via Messenger and more than 22 million animated GIFs a day. Over 1 billion messages are shared between users and companies every month.
Facebook also claims Messenger is responsible for 10 percent of all Voice over IP (VoIP) calls made globally. Moreover, Messenger now has more than 18,000 bots which has increased from 11,000 since earlier this month. Over 23,000 developers have signed up for Wit.ai’s Bot Engine.
In comparison WhatsApp crossed 1 billion monthly active users in February 2016 while Facebook owned Instagram has more than 500 million monthly active users.
