The Gear Icon X is Samsung’s take on a fitness focussed earphone and is a play in the completely cord free audio device market. Launched alongside the Galaxy Note7, we got a chance to spend some time with them. Here’s what we thought.
Hands On Video
Starting from the outside, the Icon X come packaged inside a capsule like case that also doubles up as a charging device. Over at the back of the capsule lies a microUSB port to charge up the battery. There’s a button on the front that opens up the lid while lights on either side indicate charging status.
Pressing the button reveals the Icon X earbugs resting inside. lifting them up you’ll notice the pogo pin connectors that are used to charge the built in 50mAh battery. While the inbuilt battery lasts about 1.5 hours of bluetooth streaming, the case itself can charge it twice over. You can store songs on the built in 4GB of storage to get longer battery life.
The Icon X earbuds look like regular bluetooth earbuds with the exception that they are completely disconnected from each other. This makes them particularly convenient and moreover comfortable to wear. The earbuds also integrate heart rate and step counter functionality.
While fascinating from a technology perspective, we feel that the poor battery life of the Icon X could prove to be detrimental but we’ll explore this in our full review. The IconX earbuds are priced at Rs. 13,490 in India and will be available from August-end.
