Earlier this week, Facebook announced that it will circumvent ad blockers on the desktop website. However, the ad blockers are clearly not happy with Facebook’s move and have struck back. Adblock Plus, a popular tool for blocking ads on the internet has rolled out a work around for Facebook’s ad blocking restrictions.
Adblock Plus has added a new filter that can purportedly identify and shut out ads on the site inspite of Facebook’s ad blocking restrictions. However, Facebook is not giving up easily on this issue and has released a statement on the Adblock Plus update.
We’re disappointed that ad blocking companies are punishing people on Facebook as these new attempts don’t just block ads but also posts from friends and Pages. This isn’t a good experience for people and we plan to address the issue. Ad blockers are a blunt instrument, which is why we’ve instead focused on building tools like ad preferences to put control in people’s hands.
The social network accused Adblock Plus’s filter of removing legitimate content from friends and Page along with ads.
