Reliance Jio started offering JioFi 2 hotspot with preview offer for HP laptop customers recently. Couple of days back it started rolling out the hotspot for all and will be available across India from August 16th. We managed to get one from Reliance Digital for Rs. 2899. Check out the unboxing.

On the front the JioFi 2 has several indicator LEDs for network, download and WiFi status. There indicators are hardly off when its off. It has support for 3 (1800 MHz), 5 (850 MHz) and 40 (TD 2300 MHz) for Jio. There is a Jio logo on the front along with a power button.
The 2300mAh battery promises up to 8 hours of usage and up to 300 hours of standby. This might vary depending on the network condition. Jio says that it will take up about 3 hours and 30 minutes to charge the device using the power adapter and about 7 hours using USB.
There is also a WPS support for secure connection and lets you connect up to 31 WiFi-enabled devices. You can use the micro USB cable for USB tethering with laptops or PCs. It also has a microSD card slot so that you can access those files across multiple devices. There is a online portal, jiofi.local.html that lets you view the status and change the setting of the device. You can also make voice and video calls even on a 2G/3G phone by installing JioJoin app and connecting it to the hotspot over WiFi.
