Google Duo for Android clocks 5 million downloads in a week

Google launched its Duo video calling app for Android and iOS devices last week, after announcing it at the Google I/O back in May. Today the company’s CEO Sundar Pichai said that the Duo app for Android has crossed 5 million downloads in a week, even though the Play Store shows that the installs are between 1 million and 5 million.

The Google Duo Android app crossed half a million installs in 3 days and crossed 1 million in about 5 days. No details about the number of installs for the iOS app.

Google Duo is a simple one-to-one video calling app . It will reduce the resolution when bandwidth is limited to keep the call going smoothly. For video calls on the go, Duo will switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data automatically without dropping your call.

Even though the app currently supports only video calls, Google’s product lead for communication Amit Fulay recently confirmed that audio-only calls will come to Duo soon.
