Truecaller rolls out Spam protection for iPhone

Apple announced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus yesterday while the iOS 10 will be available for download on September 13. Truecaller is launching its integration of the new CallKit Extension for iOS 10 which will improve Spam identification on iPhone.

Truecaller claims that Indian users get more than 300 million unwanted calls per month, while over 20 million US consumers end up paying more than $7.4 billion dollars annually due to spam calls. With the new integration Truecaller will automatically identify and display whether a call has been reported as spam or is from a reputable business. This saves users the trouble of manually searching for numbers of unknown calls after they are left unanswered.

In addition to the improved spam detection, Truecaller is also adding a new “My Block List” feature which will let you control exactly who can and cannot contact you.

Tom Hsieh, VP Partnerships & Growth at Truecaller said,

Working closely with Apple over the past few months, we’re proud to bring a call solution to your iPhone to provide safe and authentic communication. With the massive increase in robocalls, telemarketing and phone scams, it’s more important than ever to know who’s calling you. In our early testing, we’ve seen Spam detection rates on iPhone increase by more than 50% in some markets, reaching upwards of 90% of all spam calls made to our users. And with our dogged focus on data quality, we fully expect these rates to continue improving for the benefit of our users.

The latest update is expected to arrive soon, and will work only with devices running on iOS 10. iPhone users will have to also manually enable Call Blocking and Identification in the Settings app by heading to Settings > Phone > Call Blocking and Identification to turn on the feature.
