Samsung Galaxy Note 7 OTA update to limit battery charge to 60%

Samsung is working on OTA update for the Galaxy Note 7 to fix the exploding battery issue. The OTA update will permanently limit the capacity of the battery to 60%.

After the update, the phone will charge its battery no more than 2,100mAh, which is 60 percent of the 3,500mAh total capacity. According to a report from Associated Press, the South Korean giant has put up an advertisement in South Korean newspaper called as Seoul Shinmun, announcing the plan. The company is working with Korean carriers to prepare the update, which is planned to begin rolling out from September 20.

Earlier this week, Samsung announced partnership with U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission team up for official Galaxy Note7 recall. The company issued a global recall of the Galaxy Note7 earlier this month over battery exploding issues.

The AP report did not specify whether the OTA update will be available globally.
