Samsung Galaxy Note 7 IMEI tool checker is now available

Earlier today, Samsung and US CPSC recalled 1 million Galaxy Note7 phones after 92 reports of overheating. Now, the company has made the IMEI tool checker for Note7 live on its site.

In order to see if your Galaxy Note7 is safe or not, owners will have to head over to Samsung’s Note 7 IMEI checker and insert your IMEI or serial number to verify whether or not your device is affected by the recall. After adding your phone’s IMEI number and pressing the Check button you will  know if that phone is part of the recall.

You can find your IMEI or Serial number by going to the Settings app, then tapping About Phone. Or you can go to General Management > Status > IMEI information or Serial number.

In addition, ZDNet notes Samsung will change the color of the battery indicators in newly produced Galaxy Note 7.  The battery indicator at the top right corner of the home screen will now be green instead of white. This will allow consumers to differentiate the old faulty units from the new ones, the company has said.

Samsung announced a global recall of the Galaxy Note7 phones earlier this month over battery exploding issues. The company said that new Note7 replacement devices will be available in the United States at most retail locations only after September 21, 2016.
