Microsoft has introduced Unified Update Platform (UUP) which is company’s next generation delivery technology that is incorporated into its latest Insider builds.
The UUP will reduce the download size of the updates on their PC. Going forward Microsoft says, users can expect the “download size to decrease by approximately 35% when going from one major update of Windows to another”. The company is also making the process of devices checking for updates more efficient. It is reducing the update data sent to client devices as well as the amount of processing done on them, especially for devices built on the Mobile OS. Using UUP, when your device checks for updates, the Windows Update service will evaluate which updates are needed by a given device. The Windows Update service then returns these updates to the device for download and install. This leads to faster checks for update operations as more processing is being done by the service.
Microsoft plans to roll out UUP in stages starting today for Mobile devices and expect to start using it for PC Insider builds later this year and then IoT and HoloLens shortly after.
In addition to UUP, Microsoft has also released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14959 for Mobile and PC to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. The latest build for Mobile has been pushed using the UUP. Microsoft has added a new Zoom option in the View menu, where you can override the default scaling and set it to 100, 125, 150 or 200.
