In a bid to foray into immersive sports tech, Intel has acquired VR startup VOKE. VOKE acquisition will help Intel to bring the ability to broadcast live events in VR.
Founded in 2004 and headquartered in California, VOKE specializes in immersive live sports video experience. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but it has acquired VOKE’s technology, talent and existing business.
VOKE’s platform comprises of proprietary paired lens, stereoscopic capture system provides a natural view of the action, allowing fans to see realistic proportions and depth wherever they look. Users can access the experience from any device such as PC, tablet, phone and VR headset.
James Carwana, head of Intel Sports Group said in a blog post,
Sports is being revolutionized by data and the ability to capture, connect, analyze and interact with it. We call this the digitization of sports. At Intel, we’re building a broad portfolio of best-in-class solutions to deliver new, immersive sports experiences for athletes, fans and content producers.
Other acquisitions from Intel this year computer vision firm, Itseez Inc, drone maker Ascending Technologies and artificial intelligence startup Nervana.
