WhatsApp for iPhone now lets you send and receive GIFs and send videos, live photos as GIFs

WhatsApp for Android beta received option to add GIFs from a 6 second video, which was later now the iOS app has also received this feature. It also lets you copy a GIF image from a website and sent it to others. You really can’t send GIFs that you have saved, just like Android.

You can also send live image as GIFs. The GIF files are played inline. Once you have created a GIF, you can forward it to others. When your try to download the GIF file through desktop, it is saved as a MP4 file.

New features in WhatsApp 2.16.15 for iPhone

  • You can now send and receive animated GIFs
  • For videos that are 6 seconds or shorter, you can now send them as animated GIFs. Just tap the GIF toggle after picking a video.
  • Send Live Photos as animated GIFs. Just 3D Touch any live photo from Attach — Photo/Video Library and choose “Select as GIF.”
