MediaTek Inc, one of the biggest mobile chipset suppliers to Chinese phone manufacturers, recently announced its participation in the Open Handset Alliance, which is a partnership of more than 71 global mobile industry leaders aimed to accelerate innovation and offer consumers a richer and connected mobile experience.

MediaTek is planning to put its Android chips into volume production from Q3, 2010. In China, MediaTek’s System-On-a-Chip (SoC) has been widely used for some of the world’s cheapest phones. Due to the tremendous growth of Android, MediaTek shifted smartphone development efforts from Windows platform to Android platform early this year.
