Samsung is in talks to sell its personal-computer arm to Lenovo, world’s largest PC manufacturer in terms of shipments, according to a report from Korean news outlet The Bell. Sony was one of the first companies to sell its VAIO PC division back in 2014. A recent report said that Fujitsu was in talks to sell its PC business to Lenovo.
The report said that Samsung is carrying out talks without a financial advisor, but it has hirted US-based law firm Paul Hastings as a legal, while Lenovo is represented by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. It also said that the deal price could be worth more than 1 trillion won (US$850 million).
Samsung recently sold its printer business for $1.05 billion to HP, which is expected to close next year. After the discontinuation of Galaxy Note7, Samsung said that it expects to lose mid-3 trillion won ($3.1 billion approx.) in operating profit from the fourth quarter of 2016 through the first quarter of 2017.
