Facebook is taking another aim at Snapchat just in time for the holidays. The social network has added a new in-app camera for Messenger that comes with art and lot of special effects.
The new camera shutter button which is present front and center lets users take photos and enhance them with text, stickers, animated effects, illustrated frames and doodles. You can even add 3D masks, special effects and artistic filters to your photos. Facebook says more than 2.5 billion emojis, photos, stickers, and videos are sent every day on Messenger, and the company wants to enhance the experience for its next billion users. The social network says it has worked with artists and influencers from all over the world to bring these customization tools in Messenger.
In addition to camera, Messenger has also added a new feature that improves the messaging experience as well. You will now see a palette icon by the shutter where you can add art and stickers to your text. It must be noted that Messenger photos will not disappear after they are sent. The latest featuers are now rolling out to Facebook Messenger app on Android and iOS. With over 1 billion MAU, Facebook Messenger is one of the most popular instant messaging apps and the addition of new features looks like a move to compete with the like of Google Allo and Apple Messages.
