Facebook has updated Account Kit developer tool that is used to log in to apps with their phone number. Introduced by Facebook in April this year, Account Kit is a phone number and email login solution. It is a complimentary product to Facebook Login.

With the latest update, Android users will now be able to sign in and start using apps just by typing in their phone number and will no longer have to type in the code from an SMS message or Facebook push notification to get authenticated. The feature attempt a match with the verified phone number listed on the person’s Facebook profile when a user enters his/her phone number into an app using Account Kit, via Android services. However, the user must be logged into the Facebook app on the same device. If there is a match, we can complete the verification without sending a one-time password (OTP) via SMS, making the sign-in flow more seamless. If there isn’t a successful match, a SMS will be sent with a verification code to complete the sign-in.

Facebook says this feature is launched to improve the verification process in a secure way and no additional Facebook information is shared with the app. As per initial tests people entering an app through the instant verification flow have a 97% conversion rate.
