Reliance Jio is gearing up to make LYF phones in India. The company has asked Chinese and Taiwanese device makers along with Foxconn to manufacture LYF VoLTE smartphones, smart set-top boxes, home automation and automobile telematics devices in the country, according to latest report from the Economic Times.
The report further added that Foxconn will start production of LYF 4G smartphones in India and the rest of the devices by other vendors will follow suit. Reliance is still in discussion with Foxconn about volumes of LYF phones. “Foxconn can be the number one partner for Jio, as nobody can match the scale that it has”, a person familiar with Foxconn’s plans told ET.
Oppo, Xiaomi, Gionee, Vivo, HTC, Sony, Microsoft, LG, Lenovo, Motorola, Asus, Micromax, Celkon and Karbonn, have already announced investments in the country to set up their manufacturing plants.
