A new report from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities says that the next iPhone will not have the home button and instead sport ‘virtual buttons. Kuo also believes the iPhone 8 will use a 5.8-inch OLED display of which 5.15 inches will be used for screen content while the rest is being reserved for a “function area” at the bottom that will house virtual buttons.
Kuo also added that Apple is working on an alternative for Touch ID with new biometric technologies. A separate report yesterday said that Apple will ditch the home button and the fingerprint reader will be built into iPhone display. iPhone debuted in 2007 with the iconic home button which was simply used to get back to the home screen in iOS. However in 2013, Apple unveiled Touch ID fingerprint sensor that was used to unlock the device and authenticate mobile payments via Apple Pay.
As per previous reports, the next generation iPhones will sport edge-to-edge to display with narrow bezels thereby offering more screen space. The new iPhones are expected to feature iris scanner, wireless charging and come with other major changes as it is Apple’s 10th Anniversary
