Last week, Google confirmed that Pixel 2 will continue to be a premium device. Meanwhile, a separate report in January this year said Google is working on a budget phone code-named as Pixel 2B. Now a tipster has told 9to5Google that Google is indeed working on a budget smartphone but it will not have the Pixel branding.
He further stated that as the budget phone will not have the Pixel branding, there is a possibility the device could be an Android One phone that is aimed at emerging markets and will not be released in the US. According to earlier rumors, the Pixel 2 will be waterproof, expected to be powered by Snapdragon 835 chip and come with an improved camera. The Pixel 2 is said to see at least $50 price increase, so it might start at $699.
Meanwhile, details about the budget phone are scarce as of now. It remains to be seen if Google will give another shot to the struggling Android One program with this budget device.
