Some Google Pixel, Pixel XL users are facing microphone failure

Some of the Google Pixel smartphone users are facing issues related to microphone. Few users have posted issues complaining about failing microphones on Google’s support forums. The microphones are not working which is resulting into a total audio input block, however they are working while recording a video using the camera app.

Received my pixel today and after a few hours of use and set up the microphone stopped working entirely, except when recording video upon which it’ll record audio fine as if nothing were wrong. I factory reset the phone and the issue still persists everywhere but the camera app.

Google’s Brian Rakowsk has acknowledged that this is specifically a hardware issue and not a software issue, so it can’t be fixed through software update. He said both the Pixel and Pixel XL may have a failure-causing physical default in one of the three microphones on the devices, the primary “phone” input and two ambient mics. He further added that there could be an issue with a hairline crack in the solder of the microphone component going to the phone’s main board. Google has taken steps to reinforce the mic connection during manufacture to avoid recurrence of the issue, he added. The problem is occurring with “less than one percent” of units.

Rakowsk said, “If you have purchased the phone from another retailer, your best bet is to go back to that retailer as they can replace the phone more quickly”.

In November, some Pixel users were receiving distorted images whenever the images are sent using an Apple iPhone 7 Plus. Prior to this, Pixel owners have also complained about camera glitches, Bluetooth pairing and LTE connectivity issues.
